This edit is in the style
of both Richard Avedon and Annie Leibovitz. Annie Leibovitz is an American
portrait photographer who photographs celebrities such as John Lennon and Kate
Moss. Her inspiration comes from Robert Frank and Henri Cartier-Bresson.
Richard Avedon is an American portrait and fashion photographer. His work
focuses on uncovering the hidden emotions of his models. Neither of the
photographers work is in the style of an art movement and both of the
photographers work is figurative because it features people. The shot type
Annie Leibovitz has used in the picture I am recreating is an extreme close up
to show the sadness in the girls face and therefore make the audience feel emotive
towards the pictures. Furthermore, the use of colour is used in the eyes to
make them piercing and make the image personal to you because it is as though
the girl is looking at you. The angle used is a straight on angle to connote
that the girl is exactly like you which makes you feel her sadness. Because the
picture is an extreme close up leading lines and dept of field haven’t been considered
as you can only see the foreground and leading lines are usually used to draw
your attention to something specific in a busy picture but this picture is just
a simple image of the face. The picture looks like it was taken in a studio
which means artificial lighting will have been used through spotlights and
other lights. The shutter speed used will have been slow as there is no
movement In the image. A small aperture would have bee used so that the picture
wasn’t overexposed because of the slow
shutter speed allowing a lot of light in. The shot type Richard Avedon used is
a medium close up to how the beauty of Marilyn Monroe by showing what she is wearing.
The picture was taken in black and white as the time it was taken was when they
didn’t have coloured cameras. Similar to Annie Leibovitz, the picture is taken
from a straight angle to connote that Marilyn Monroe, although famous is just
like us and isn’t necessarily happy despite her status. This is shown through
her facial expression. Leading lines and Depth of field are not considered
because the picture is a portrait. The shutter speed used will be slow and the
aperture will be small so that the picture isn’t overexposed. This is
especially important because of the use of black and white. The lighting used
is studio lighting. I created this edit on photoshop In the style of both
photographers by adjusting the colour to black and white and then using the
magnetic lasso tool around the mouth and lips and then adjusting the colour
balance so the eyes were made blue and the lips were made pink. This is in the
style of Richard Avedon and Annie Leibovitz because Annie Leibovitz took the
photograph of the girl with the piercing eyes which connoted sadness which is
similar to mine. Although in my picture the girl is smiling the use of piecing
colour through the black and white in the style of Richard Avedon is supposed
to represent how she really feels.I have taken this photograph in natural light
and used a public background to make my model seem unaware of her beauty and
make my picture slightly different from the photographers I have studied . I would improve
this picture by getting my model to wear something different and by making her
look lost so it seems like there is more to the story than just her beauty. I haven’t considered leading lines because the photographers
I studied didn’t. I have however considered depth of field because the
background is of a public area. I have made my depth of field sharp so you can
see both the foreground and the background.
Because I have used natural lighting I used a small aperture and a slow
shutter speed so the picture wasn’t overexposed.

Surrealism edit
I created this picture in a surrealistic style similar to Jerry Uelsman. I edited this image on photoshop. I opened my two picture and unlocked the background on both. I then dragged the image of the fountains onto the hands and used the magnetic lasso tool to make sure the fountains fitted the hands only. I would improve this image by making the background black and by going around d the hands more carefully. To make this image more in the style of Jerry Uelsam I would have photographed a house with a door to represent new beginnings. The photo of the fountains is surrealistic because it is impossible to get the fountains on your hands, the fountains connote something new because it is as though the water is washing the negativity away.

Portrait photography
Annie Leibovotz is an American portrait photographer who's photography is inspired by Robert Frank and Henri Cartier-Bresson. Annie Leibovitz's work is all involving celebrities and works in the style of imagination and the dreamworld. Because she came from a family of 6 who moved around a lot she wouldn't have received a lot of attention which may be why she decided to start a career in photography, especially photographing famous people. This photo creates meaning because the girls eyes are piercing which connotes sadness. Furthermore, the use of dirt on her face and the shot type of an extreme close up shows that she is a neglected child which creates a powerful image. This relates to how Annie was brought up herself. The photographer focuses on colour, emotion and viewpoint. The most common models he has photographed are John Lennon on the day he was assassinated and Kate Moss, amongst many overs.
Richard Avedon is an American portrait and fashion photographer who's photos uncover the hidden personalities of his models. In particular, he photographs celebrity's such as Marilyn Monroe and Barak Obama. This picture is a black and white image of Marilyn Monroe looking lost whilst looking beautiful. This represents that being in the public eye and being pretty doesn't make you happy. The photographer has focused on composition, black and white, emotions and lighting. The shot type used is a medium close up to show how the model is in a natural environment and to show her natural beauty.

Surrealism Research
Surrealism is an art movement created in the 1920's by Andre Breton. Surrealism focus on things that are different from reality. It has no pattern or structure and focuses on dreams and leaving reality. It is Make believe and Unconventional. Surrealism works on the element of surprise which creates unexpected juxtaposing images.
Kylli Sparre was originally a ballet dancer who realised it wasn't the path for her. Now she is a photographer who focuses on the art movement of surrealism by using her passion for dance. This pictures connotes escaping reality and having a clouded mind. I enjoy the idea of escaping reality and I enjoy dancing which is why I have chosen to study this photographer.

Edit in futuristic style
This edit is in the style of Christian Stoll. It is taken from a viewpoint but a different viewpoint from where he took his picture as mine was taken from below and his was taken from above. I have changed the building to black and white which juxtaposes the blue of the sky and the grey of the building. This picture is taken in Sheffield whilst his is taking his in New York City. I would improve my image by using more leading lines in the picture and adding some colour into the building, similar to him. I adjusted the exposure on the camera as well as the shutter speed so that the picture wasn't too dark.
This picture connotes height and feeling inferior and denotes buildings. I edited this image by unlocking the layer and then using the magnetic lasso tool to select the building and adjusting the tone to black and white. The image is futuristic because the black and white resembles the steel work which relates to where the picture was taken. It is also futuristic because the building is
modern. I would make this picture more futuristic by showing some sort of movement like Christian Stoll has above and showing the technology and engineering within Sheffield. The themes this photo shows is colour, contrast, modern buildings and viewpoint.

This picture was created by Anton Giulio Bragaglia who is an Italian photographer. This picture denotes movement and connotes how
people have more than one side to them. The black and white denotes the time it was taken. I will apply this to my work by adjusting my shutter speed so it take pictures of people moving. I will use this in the subject of sport to capture movement.
This picture was created by Christian Stoll to show the movement within a city. It is taken from a viewpoint to make the picture look abstract. The picture denotes buildings and connotes the bustling city. I will use this idea in my photography as I will photograph busy areas and use leading lines. The yellow represents the colour of the taxis which shows that the picture is taken in New York city and the grey represents the buildings.
